☕ Morning fam,
The reversal of Roe v Wade will be remembered as the straw that broke the donkey’s back. Don’t be fooled by all the reactionary activity in the aftermath. Once you’re in checkmate, the match is over, continuing to move the pieces on the board won’t change the outcome. That’s what Dems are trying to do on the issue of abortion.
Dems have been playing this game for half a century. All opportunities they had to solidify Roe squandered. Instead of codifying Roe v Wade, they exploited a woman’s right to choose making it a fundraising cash cow and milked the bone dry.
Now the same folks that did nothing to protect Roe, lied and strung us along for 50 years are now asking us to rinse repeat… and give them more money… while accepting no responsibility for how we got here… and no mention, let alone an apology for decades of deception, misleading and flat out lying. And we’re expected to take it. A good portion of the party will, but not enough.
It’s a numbers game fam and Dems no longer have the numbers. They didn’t have the numbers before Row was reversed… and for many years before that due to people like me leaving the party and/or disengaging in politics all together as evidenced by the defeats of Hillary, Claire, Beto, Stacey and Andrew.
The reversal of Roe v Wade will shatter Dem’s already fractured coalition of various groups with competing issues. Roe was the glue that kept everybody together, the signature win used to sell intersectionality, which was then imposed on the black community and used to justify hijacking/co-opting autonomous black grassroots action. And to justify sabotaging any/all attempts to create a new blueprint specific to our needs. That’s what happened during Ferguson. They installed BLM, that was a grift too.
Dems about to feel this. The black clery is no longer a guarantee. It was one thing when Roe was already grandfathered in, that gave them an excuse. It’s another to make a conscious decision to go against one’s beliefs, especially on an issue like abortion that has no middle ground. Will be interesting to see if they fall in line with white liberals and progressives or white Jesus… especially after the right starts dropping dollas under the guise of supporting black churches.
There is a silver lining in this fam, we get a do-over. We are not bound by whatever arrangement resulted in blacks of that era putting our struggle on the backburner to fight for abortion. New rule. Our support no longer comes without a price or exchange. And right now the cost is reparations.
