About The NITA Awards
The Annual NITA Awards are dedicated to the memory of Anita Elizabeth Jason, known by her stage name, Nita Jason. Nita was a remarkable talent whose musical journey began in the choir of her Baptist church in Detroit.
Her passion for music blossomed from there, leading her to become a background vocalist for iconic artists like George Clinton and Prince on the Paisley Park/Warner Brothers label. Renowned songwriters such as Mike Moore and News penned songs for Nita, as well as other celebrated artists like Denise Williams, Victor Burks, and Regina Bell.
As Nita’s career evolved, she stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist, showcasing her extraordinary talent as both a singer and an accomplished pianist. Her boundless energy and spirit propelled her to success, but Nita’s legacy is more than just her own achievements—she devoted herself to uplifting and guiding other artists to realize their full potential.
